Mechanical Systems and Electric Motors (MEC-110) Spring 2018
Professor Tim Callinan: [email protected]
Learn about the basic mechanical components and electrical drives in a mechatronics system. Experience the basic functions and physical properties of mechanical components and electrical AC and DC drives, materials, lubrication requirements and surface properties.

Class Assignments
Throughout the majority of the semester, we studied different types of Mechanical Systems and their proper safety procedures (Lockout Tagout). We also created some of these systems on a small scale using different types of gears and motors. Also, we learned how to use math in order to solve real world situations with motors and gears.
Final Project
For the final project, groups were tasked with creating a device powered only by mechanical systems to lift, and move a 50 pound weight a foot, then lower it. We used VEX robotics parts. Below are photos of parts of my device. I used a chain driven by a sprocket to move the weight and a compound gear train to lift the weight. Please see the video for more information!
